José Clemente Orozco was a
Socialist realist muralist of mexico. In this picture there are many dark
colors. There are 7 skeletons that are in grudauation outfits and they are
circling another skelton laying on books. There are also 4 miniature skeletons
in little glass cases next to the skeleton laying on the books. Their is
fire in thew background and it almost makes it look like the skeletons are
in hell. The overall feeling of this painting is very dark and mysterious.
It almost looks like a funeral and mourning the death of the skeleton on
the books.
To me this painting represents death and misery of either something that
happened in Orozco's life or he just painted it becuase he was in a bad mood.
The skeletons in the painting to me respresent representaives from hell and
they are bringing this skeleton to hell. The skeleton laying on the books
obviously represents death. Since this painting has so much death represented
in it it looks like it would be dispalyed on the famous spanish holiday Dia
de Muerto. I most definatly agree with Orozco on his ideas in this painting
and think it a a wonderful piece of art. If i could name this painting i
would name it Picture from Hell. |
